Welcome to the site of the Farmington Civic Association

Brief History of Farmington

The Farmington Community had its beginnings in the early 1960’s with the construction of the first few homes and the filing of the deed covenants that formulated and established the identity and character that the Community was to have. Mr. Don Cleckley, President of Cedar Park Corporation and who resides in Farmington, is the developer of the Farmington Community.

Shortly after development began, the Farmington Recreation Association was formed with the stated purpose of building a neighborhood pool, and other recreation facilities as might be desired by the members. For several reasons, the facilities were never built and the Association dissolved about 1975.

The Community has slowly evolved from the sixties to the present 21st century homes being built. Today, the Farmington Community contains more than 460 up scale homes and a population of approximately 1200. There are a total of seventeen (17) sections. Section 17 being the final section, when completed, will terminate growth for Farmington. The custom architectural styles are wide ranging, as are the home values. The 2000 US Census shows that residents cover a broad spectrum of ethnic identity, with approximately 49% Afro-American, 49% White and 2% of Asian and Latino descent. There is a strong spirit of harmony and commonality of purpose in the attitude of all residents.

In the fall of 1990, the residents formed the Farmington Civic Association, with the stated purpose, “to promote and encourage a better community and civic spirit,” and “to foster goodwill and friendship among all residents.” Mr. Lou Augunas was elected as the first President of the Association and served for four years. Mr. Abe Firestone succeeded Mr. Augunas and served for two years, and was succeeded by Mr. Charlie Hill whose term ended December 31, 1998 after having also served two years. Mr. Jack Edwards served as President for the calendar years 1999-2002, a total of four years. Oreta Watkins served as President for the years 2003 and 2004. Mr. Moses Meadows was the President for 2005 and 2006. Philip Page, Jr. is the current President until the end of 2008.

Association newsletters are published and distributed quarterly. The content includes articles from the FCA President, Garden Club President, Neighborhood Watch Coordinator and Youth Board Representative. Various other items of interest are reported. Classified ads are accepted at a modest fee to help defray the cost of publishing the newsletter.

Farmington has an active Neighborhood Watch Program, headed by the Neighborhood Watch Coordinator and aided by 39 Block Captains.
Our Community is well defined, and as such, we enjoy great recognition that each resident bears a responsibility to other residents and that their activities have an impact on others. The ongoing median beautification program that is carried out by volunteers exemplifies this point.

On January 14, 2002, Farmington earned the status of a City of Hampton Registered Neighborhood. This status affords us preferential treatment from the Hampton Neighborhood Office for obtaining grant fund to accomplish goals and objectives. Additionally, we able to receive some copying services at no cost, as well as, reduced postage rates. On April 11, 2005, Farmington was approved by the Hampton Neighborhood Commissioners for Re-registration.
